Social media marketing is one of the most effective ways to drive traffic to your product or business. While marketing on social media can seem overwhelming, it doesn’t need to be. There are a number of easy things you can do to make the most of your efforts and increase your potential for success. Here are 6 quick tips to help your social media marketing efforts soar.
6 Quick Tips to Help Your Social Media Marketing Efforts Soar
Post the Right Type of Content
To encourage people to follow you or to keep the followers you already have, it’s important to make sure that you are consistently posting the right type of content. You’ll want to start by posting content that is interesting, engaging, and relevant to your audience’s interests.
How do you know what your audience is interested in? Be sure to do some research. Find out what type of content some of the top businesses in your field are posting about. While you won’t want to copy them, it will help you get a better sense of the types of content your target audience is interested in or used to seeing.
Use Social Media to Expand Your Email List
A lot of people think that email is no longer relevant, but this couldn’t be further from the truth! People still use email. In fact, since many people have their email accounts linked to their smartphones, they check their email more frequently than they did years ago.
One of the best things you can do is use your social media networks to drive your followers to your email list. Make it easy for them to find the link and encourage them to sign up by offering incentives, such as exclusive information or discounts. Don’t Rely Too Heavily On One Network
One of the biggest mistakes that many people make in their social media marketing efforts is limiting themselves to just one or two social networks. If you have only been using Facebook or Twitter to market your business, it’s time to expand! Use Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and any other social media network that you can think of. Consider how you may even be able to use YouTube to help market your business. While you may not have success with every social media network, it can’t hurt to test out as many as you can find the time for.
Use Targeted Marketing to Your Advantage
You have to know your audience! Targeted marketing is one of the easiest ways to reach your audience. In order to make the most of it, be sure to narrow your target audience down as much as possible. Give some thought about who you are trying to market your business to. Be sure to keep the following in mind:
- Location. Would you benefit from an international audience? If you run a blog that’s written in English, you might consider targeting people in primarily English-speaking countries, such as the U.S., the U.K, and Australia. If you own a restaurant or hair salon, you’ll want to narrow down your target audience to your local area.
- Age. Is your product or business something that would interest all ages or do you need to narrow it down? If you are trying to sell products to college students, you’ll want to select an age range. Other businesses, such as insurance or real estate, may appeal to people of all ages.
- Interests. Be sure to consider what interests your target audience has. If you operate a website that is aimed at young women, your target audience might be readers of magazines or other websites for young women.
Having a clear target audience in mind is one of the best ways to ensure that you are reaching people who would be interested in your business or product. When you do targeted advertisements, be sure to take note of who responds to your ads the most so you can narrow down your target audience.
Schedule Your Posts at the Right Time
It’s important to put some thought into when you schedule your posts. Consider when people will be more likely to read them. Generally, people work during the day, so posts are less likely to be seen when they are scheduled between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some people might check their social media networks before work or on their lunch breaks, but you have a better chance of people seeing your posts between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. If your audience lives in a different time zone, this is also something to keep in mind. I use CoSchedule, a Virtual Assistant, and Tailwind to optimize my scheduling.
Make it Easy to Find Your Product or Business
A big mistake that a lot of people make when using social media marketing is assuming that people will know how to find their product or business. Don’t just assume that your followers will Google your website. Make sure that you include a link to your website in your social media profile. If you are selling a product or service, you will want to make sure that you post links to your website on occasion. You won’t want to post links too frequently or you risk your followers feeling like you only care about sales. At the same time, you will want to make sure that they know how to find your products. If you have a local business, be sure to include the address on your social media profile. When you run specials, discounts, or advertisements, be sure to include the address and phone number so people can easily find your business.Social media marketing isn’t going to do you any good if people are unable to figure out how to take advantage of the services that you have to offer!
