Email marketing strategy is key to generating sales and growing your business.

Duh, right?

Believe it or not, most bloggers don't get it right, or they don't get it as “right” as they could. A strategy is not defined and critical steps to monetizing email newsletters are skipped over in the process.

Your first step is to define your email marketing goals and to understand what a conversion is to you and your business. Getting your reader to open your email is an art and a science. You have to make sure you're ending up in the right mailbox and you have to ask yourself: does my reader recognize me? Does she know you? Have you taken the time to introduce yourself within the context of why she needs to receive your newsletter?

Technically, you have to make sure you're ending up in the right mailbox and, less technically, you have to ask yourself: does my reader recognize me? Does she know you? Have you taken the time to introduce yourself within the context of why she needs to receive your newsletter?

Strategic Email Marketing Headlines for Bloggers

Headline copy is one of the key ingredients to getting a reader to open your email. Recently, I began analyzing each and every email I send out to my list.  Below are my top headlines for August 2017. I don't include anything below a 30% open rate.

  1. Adios, Arrivederci, Ciao, Au Revoir, Zàijiàn. (Promo, Targeted, 43% Open Rate) ?? curiosity
  2. Reminder: This is NO Joke. Time is Running Out. (Promo, Targeted, 42%) ?? urgency
  3. Stop Living Buried in Clutter. Simplify Like You Mean It. (Promo, Targeted, 41%) ?? emotional
  4. You have 48 hours & I need to tell you something (Promo, Targeted, 41%) ?? urgency & curiosity
  5. Join the Other 3K Parents Who Have Downloaded the Bundle (Promo, Targeted, 38%) ?? social proof
  6. I Wish I Could Help You! (Promo, Targeted, 36%) ?? emotional
  7. ? Are you still up? (Promo, Targeted, 34%) ?? emoji & urgency
  8. ? {Parenting Super Bundle} Last Day to Receive 98% Off (Promo, Targeted, 33%) ?? emoji & urgency
  9. One Day Left to Purchase the Parenting Super Bundle! (Promo, Targeted, 33%) ?? urgency
  10. Shoot! Did you miss the printables sale? (Promo, Targeted, 30%) ?? FOMO

Conclusions: targeted emails, evoking an emotional response, and scarcity all play into open rates.

Talk to you soon!
